Breast Lift

  • (Mastopexy or Breast Lift surgery)
  • Breast lift cosmetic surgery is most useful to restore youthful appearance to the breasts when they lose volume and start to sag. This surgery is also used to correct uneven breasts along with decreased breast volume and drooping nipples.
  • In case the breasts have less or more volume than normal this surgery may be combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction surgery. Thousands of women all over the world are able to regain youthful and firm looking breasts thanks to breast lift cosmetic surgery.

Overview

Who needs it?
  • Breast lift surgery is advised for:
  • Breasts that lose volume after pregnancy, with nursing or due to gravity and ageing
  • Cases where breast implant surgery is not advisable by the cosmetic surgeon
  • Correcting stretched nipples and areola tissue

Who is an ideal candidate for Breast Lift surgery?

  • The factors that help decide an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery are:
  • If breasts become pendulous but retain sufficient size
  • If breasts lack natural firmness and substance
  • If nipples and areolas start to point downwards
  • If breasts are asymmetrical (differ in size and firmness)
  • If breasts are disproportionately small compared to overall body size
  • If breasts are abnormally large
  • The cosmetic surgeon will mainly consider the overall health status and realistic expectation before deciding an ideal candidate for this cosmetic procedure.

How is it performed?

  • Breast lift procedure is performed after administering general anesthesia to the patient. This helps to prevent pain or discomfort to the patient during the surgery. There are several incision approaches that the surgeon may choose to perform this procedure. These help the surgeon to remove breast skin and reshape the breast accordingly. The size and shape of the breast, along with the size of the areola and its position, the skin quality, the degree of sagging and elasticity remaining in the skin help decide the approach in individual cases.
  • Generally, breast lift cosmetic surgery involves removing excessive breast skin and shifting the nipple and the areola to a normal (higher) position. The areola is reduced in size if it is stretched.
  • The skin above the areola is stretched and brought down to tighten it over the breast. This helps to give a firm shape to sagging breasts. After removing excessive skin the surgeon will close the incisions.
  • Incisions are normally placed in the natural crease of the breasts to hide the scars resulting from it till they disappear naturally after a while. The areolas and nipple are not removed from the underlying supporting breast tissue which retains sensitivity and the ability to breast feed after the surgery.

How safe is it?

  • The type and location of the incisions are included in the factors that decide the recovery period after a breast lift cosmetic surgery. Incisions are either made around the areolas, or extending down from areolas to the crease of the breast or made horizontally along the crease of the breast.
  • Although the incision lines are permanent, these mostly fade and are nearly invisible after some time. An experienced cosmetic surgeon will make the incisions in a way that they are not visible normally.
